Job Summary:
The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher is responsible for providing adaptive physical education instruction to students with disabilities. The teacher will assess individual student needs, design and implement appropriate physical education programs, and collaborate with other professionals to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Assess students' physical abilities, limitations, and adaptive requirements to develop personalized physical education plans.
2. Create and implement adaptive physical education programs that align with individualized education plans (IEPs) and meet the unique needs and goals of students with disabilities.
3. Instruct students in a variety of adaptive physical activities, exercises, and sports to improve motor skills, coordination, strength, and overall physical fitness.
4. Adapt and modify physical education curricula, equipment, and strategies to facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities in mainstream physical education activities.
5. Provide individualized attention and support to students during physical education classes, ensuring their safety and promoting their active participation.
6. Collaborate with special education teachers, occupational therapists, and other relevant professionals to develop strategies and interventions that enhance students' physical development and social integration.
7. Monitor and evaluate students' progress, documenting their achievements, challenges, and adjustments made to their physical education plans.
8. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on students' physical education progress, discuss individualized goals, and address concerns or questions.
9. Maintain accurate records, including attendance, performance assessments, and IEP-specific documentation, in compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
10. Stay updated on current research, best practices, and advancements in adaptive physical education, integrating new techniques and methodologies into instructional practices.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Valid teaching certification or license in Physical Education.
3. Proven experience working as an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher or in a similar role.
4. In-depth knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and inclusion practices related to physical education.
5. Familiarity with various disabilities and their impact on physical development and motor skills.
6. Ability to assess individual student needs and develop personalized physical education plans.
7. Proficiency in adapting and modifying physical education curricula, equipment, and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
9. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and documentation.
10. Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusivity, equality, and diversity within the educational setting.
